August 16 - Karen Boutté - Almost Stained Glass - Here we will master curved piecing by using only three pins. You will leave with a lap quilt or a wall hanging; it's your choice.

September 20 - Cindy Rinne - Layers and Veils - Create a small art quilt collage using opaque and transparent fabrics layer upon layer. You will use fusing, stamping and fabric painting in the process. Add dimension with yarns and beads. This workshop is about color, design and texture. Nature is our inspiration. Think: fog, shrouds, mystery, secrets and revelations, etc.

October 22 (Wednesday) - Scarlett Rose

Contact Laurel Doll for more information or to register for workshops and receive a materials/supply list (if required for the workshop). She can be reached at the information available in the directory or go to the Downloads page and open the roster from there.

-----------------------------------------------General Meeting - June 17, 2008
The general meeting of the Pinnacle Quilters of San Benito County was called to order by President Janet Locey at 7:05pm.

Our guest speaker was Marcia Stein, from San Francisco. She began her study of pictorial quilts while on a trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico. She has traveled in the south of France, Italy & England, and has done large pictorial quilts from photos taken in her travels. She showed slides which have inspired some of her pictorial quillts  --- as she calls them, "the good, the bad, & the ugly".  She began her study after a photo class in Santa Fe. Her first quilt was her "typewriter" quilt, taken from a photo of an antique Royal upright manual typewriter. How many of us remember those? ? ? ? ? While in the south of France, she was inspired to do "French Laundry", a pictorial of laundry hanging from a balcony, which was hand appliqued. Her "Red Chevy Pickup" was inspired while in Santa Fe, New Mexico (and by the way, has been in Quilters Newsletter magazine). Paris was the inspiration for "French Shoes" an adorable and awesome interpretation of quilted cloth baby shoes, done in reverse applique. Italy was its own inspiration -- out of it came "Gone for A Walk", two folding sling chairs that look as if you could pick them up & put them in the back of your car. Provence, France was the inspiration for "Gypsy Legs", a gorgeous take on black net stockinged legs, complete with black bows at the back of the ankles. WOW! Marcia had so many outstanding quilts to show us that I could spend another couple of pages describing more of them. I can say now that I am certainly glad I signed up for her class, even though it was very small. Only five members joined Marcia at the Methodist Church on Saturday, the 21st, but it was a good group & I think we all had a great time.  I am just sorry I had to leave early, but had another commitment out of town.

We have four new members, Linda Zentz, Leona Trusty & Weldon Trusty, and Frances Morales. We also had a guest, Betty Huffman. Welcome everyone.

The name tag drawing was won by Carol Hart. Sharon West, Membership Director, is working on the roster for 2008-2009; it should be ready after July's meeting.

We held annual election of Director positions and the results are:
President -- Sheila Galindo
Vice President/Programs -- Laurel Doll
Secretary -- Harriet Clark
Hospitality -- Eva Trenberth, Linda Kubota
Treasurer -- Linda Elia
Membership -- Sharon West
Publicity -- Mary Oteri
Newsletter -- Jennifer Galindo
Community Service -- Bev Hanagan
Boutique Co-Directors -- Jenn Lucero & Jane Charron
Donations(Baskets) -- Irene Towler
Webmistress -- Julee Maggiora
Member-at-Large -- Dianna Smith

Shannon reminded us to all pick up our ticket packets for the Opportunity Quilt "Batik Stars" for 2009-2010. She is looking into entering it into the Monterey County Fair in August and in P.I.Q.F. in October. You go, Shannon.

There was discussion of some possible changes to our bylaws; they will be printed in the newsletter & voted on at next regular meeting.

Our guest speaker in July will be Karen Boute (sp?) the "Quilt Diva".

Refreshments are needed for August, October, and November. See Eva or Linda to sign up.

Sheila read a thank you letter from Eleanor Hooton and the Methodist Church women for allowing them to participate in our vendors' portion of our Quilt Show in April. The proceeds from their sales will go to migrant workers' children and to the homeless in San Benito County.

Sharlene VanRooy showed us the progress that has been made on the next Opportunity Quilt. These last two rows were pieced and added by the "Twisted Stitchers", all members of our guild.

Janet had a surprise (not a good one) announcement --- the V.F.W. has decided to raise our rent to $120 per month. There were suggestions to find someplace else, but we are trying to stay within San Juan Bautista because it is more centrally located for those members in Monterey & Santa Clara Counties. We will have an update on the situation later.

The board meeting for July (the 8th) will be at Julee Maggiora's home in Gilroy --- contact her for directions. I will not be there, my daughter & granddaughter will be here from Ohio that whole week & I am going to enjoy showing my granddaughter as much of California as I can squeeze into a week(as long as I can afford the gasoline!)

Dennis Reeves of Homespun Harbor (& on the board of directors of Chamberlain's Children's Center) gave a rousing "thank you" to the guild for all the donated quilts so far.  The guild will pay for quilting any "Chamberlain" quilts & also has a stash for backings.

Mary Oteri & Anneke Wheaton, the Nominations Committee, thanked the guild members for taking their calls and stepping up to the plate in accepting nominations to the board of the guild.

Basket drawing was held --- winners were: Dianna Ritchie, Bev Hanagan, Alta Evans, Sharon West, Madeline Beaudoin, Sheila Galindo & Julee Maggiora.

I almost forgot to mention our fabulous Show 'N Tell ---- Sheila Galindo showed us a Fuschia quilt for Chamberlain's and a red, white & bold table runner Louise Eichhorn showed a big blossom table runner & holiday kitchen towels that look like tiny little girls' dresses

Patti Mauerman showed a Past Times "co-ordinated scrappy" quilt

Sheron Johnson showed a beautiful Ashen Cranberry quillt which will be auctioned at the Relay for Life

Bev Hanagan wowed us with her "Scott's Scotties" quilt for her oldest son

Julie Young had an adorable "scrappy" baby quilt, all in yellows & aquas

Laurel Doll showed us the "back" of her block of the month quilt -- Easter, I believe.

Madeleine Beaudoin showed a multicolored knitted afghan she is donating to Linus Quilts & a small wallhanging she picked up in Peru.

Julee Maggiora showed us two of her projects from her design class in Berkeley.

Leona & Weldon Trusty (new members) -- showed us 4 gorgeous quilts that they have made while traveling in their motorhome.  Shows what you can do in a small space.

Colleen Egland showed us her "chicken block" variations, they are adorable, Colleen
and,

Dianna Ritchie showed us her "Fun in the Snow" quilt

Thank you for all who "Showed & Telled" and remember, keep it SHORT, so we don't spend half the night here.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:20pm.
Thank you,
Dianna Smith, Secretary pro-tem
